Nice to meet you!
I am a South African, who for the past 14 years has called Western Australia home. I’m at my happiest when around my husband and two young daughters and even happier if Cat Stevens happens to be playing in the background. As a family, we love travelling and exploring this beautiful country of ours.
As with many others, lockdown in 2020 brought with it unwanted weight gain even though I exercised daily (Life lesson: ‘You can’t outrun a bad diet’). At the start of 2021 I reached out to a diet coach in New York who put me on calorie restricted meal plan containing lots of protein, moderate amounts of carbohydrate and a minimum of fat. I followed the plan for 8 months and the weight came off pretty easily, but my health deteriorated. My body began to tell me that something was wrong. I was extremely fatigued – so much so that I could not even hold my phone to my ear or pack my kids lunch boxes. I completely lost my appetite and struggled to fall asleep. Countless doctor appointments and scans etc all yielded nothing! They said I was fine – but I wasn’t.
It was only when a close friend told me to get in touch with Dr. Peter Hill that things began to improve. After our initial consultation I decided to commit to his healthy living program which is basically the total opposite of what I had previously being doing. I am happy to say that after 6 weeks on the program I felt absolutely incredible. I was back to my exercise routine and slept like a baby (not the crying version!). Amongst other things, I’ve learnt that healthy fats are truly essential for in balancing a woman’s hormones!
I’m not a dietician or expert chef but a stay-at-home mom who enjoys cooking healthy food for family. For me food feeds the body while cooking nourishes my soul. I would love to share some of my ‘soul food’ ideas with you and so take a look at Frenene’s Recipes and let me know what you think.
As a Greek physician and philosopher once said, ‘Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food’
Happy healthy cooking
